Operator Qualification is a federally mandated program of the Department of Transportation’s Office of Pipeline Safety. Defined in 49 CFR part 192,subpart N. 192.801, this program is designed to reduce the risk of accidents or incidents to personnel and/or the company’s pipeline facilities. This program now requires that anyone performing certain tasks on a pipeline system must be qualified to do those tasks.

What this means to you as a gas customer or contractor is that any maintenance required on an existing gas service line or any new service line installations must be performed by someone who has had proper training and evaluation for performing these tasks.

The regulations also require all persons performing these tasks to be enrolled in an approved Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
